Question:
The questioner Ahmad (A. A) says: What are the hadiths regarding the virtue of straightening the rows? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
There are many hadiths on this matter; among them is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): When he would stand, he would say to the people—when he stood to lead them in prayer after the iqamah was finished—when he stood for prayer, he would look to the right and to the left, and urge them: Sunan an-Nasa'i 819Hasan (Darussalam) Thus he would urge them to straighten the rows and establish them.
And he would say: So he (peace and blessings be upon him) would encourage them to establish the rows, close the gaps, close the openings between them, and to stand straight.
And he would say:Sunan Ibn Majah 992 They said: O Messenger of Allah! Sunan Ibn Majah 992 Like this, meaning they complete the first row, then the next, and they stand close together in them, and they pay the utmost attention to this.
Thus it is obligatory for the believers to stand close together in the rows, and to complete the first row, then the next; acting in accordance with his command (peace and blessings be upon him) and his guidance, upon him be peace and blessings.
And he would say:Sunan Abi Dawud 667Sahih (Al-Albani) And this would be repeated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in every prayer (peace and blessings be upon him) until the people would become aware, and until they would advise one another of this command, and give one another sincere advice, and until some of them would convey it to others. At some times, he wanted to say the takbir, but he saw a man whose chest was protruding, so he said: Mishkat al-Masabih 1085. Yes.
