The Shaykh : And may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. It has been established for us that among the prohibitions of ihram is the use of perfume, and the evidence for this is the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas regarding the one whose mount fell on him. In truth, this hadith is cited as evidence for many issues. It is one of the signs of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) that a single incident befalling one of the Companions yields numerous rulings, rulings concerning life and rulings concerning death. This is part of the blessing of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in that Allah blesses his knowledge, so you find that a single story contains several rulings that the community needs until the Day of Resurrection, in life and in death. Ibn al-Qayyim derived twelve issues from this hadith, and upon reflection, it contains more than what he mentioned, because it is truly a great hadith. In this is also evidence of the wisdom of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and that His divine decree, which is considered a calamity, may be a blessing and a gift from the perspective of Islamic law. So this one whose mount fell on him (may Allah be pleased with him) at 'Arafah, it was a calamity, but there arose from it benefits and blessings that none knows except Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
