The ruling on leaving off an act of worship for the sake of people out of fear of showing off

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is your opinion regarding the statement of al-Fudayl: "Whoever leaves off an act of worship for the sake of people..."?

Answer:
The statement of al-Fudayl is not applicable in all cases; the statement of al-Fudayl is not applicable in all cases.
Q: And the response?
A: There is nothing wrong with it, meaning he does not leave off the act of worship for the sake of people. He does what Allah has prescribed for him and does not care about people, but he does not intend to show off to them in his other deeds.
As for his leaving off the act of worship so that it is not said that he is showing off, no, he prays and does not care about them. Praise be to Allah, he prays the Duha prayer and does not care, he prays the voluntary prayers and does not care, he performs the late-night prayer and does not care, even if they say that he is a show-off, as long as he knows that Allah has absolved him of this and that he did not intend showing off; the talk of people does not harm him.
