Leaving work for the sake of people

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q 3: A man was praying, and when the prayer ended, he found one of his shaykhs next to him. He feared that he would fall into showing off, so he did not perform the sunnah out of fear of falling into showing off . Is it permissible to do this, does he owe anything, and is his act valid?
A 3: The least of the rulings on this action is that it is disliked, and some scholars have counted it among showing off; because one who intends to perform an act of worship and leaves it off for fear that people will see him is a hypocrite; because he left the work for the sake of people, and leaving work out of fear of showing off is one of the snares of Satan, for if a person did this, Satan would likely, upon knowing it, oppose him with whispers at every act
and doubts, until he leaves off every obedience. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
