The Ruling on Games Involving a Prize

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Five teams, each consisting of one thousand riyals, and they designated it for the winner among them, making it five thousand. If one of them wins the ball, does this team take it?

Answer:
It is not permissible. Playing for a prize is not permissible in ball games, nor in any other game, except in only three cases: racing with arrows, horses, and camels. In anything else, a prize is not permissible. There is no harm in racing on foot, but without a prize. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
No stake is acceptable except in archery, racing a camel, and racing a horse.لا سبق إلا في نصلٍ أو خفٍّ أو حافرٍ
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1700Hasan (Darussalam)
. The arrow: refers to archery; the hoof: refers to camels; and the hoof: refers to horses.
