What is the ruling on maintaining family ties?
It is obligatory. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the hadith:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 56, and he said in another authentic hadith: Allah, Mighty and Majestic, says regarding the family tie: Sunan Abi Dawud 1694Sahih (Al-Albani), and Allah says: [Muhammad 47:22] Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their eyes [Muhammad:22- 23], and in another hadith: Sunan Abi Dawud 1696Sahih (Al-Albani).
It is obligatory. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the hadith:
Anyone who wants to have his provision expanded and his term of life prolonged should maintain ties of kinship.
مَن أحبَّ أن يبسط له في رزقه، وأن يُنسأ له في أثره فليصل رحمهIf anyone joins it, I shall join him, and if anyone cuts it off, I shall cut him off.
مَن وصلها وصلتُه، ومَن قطعها بتتّهSo would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption on earth and sever your [ties of] relationship?
فَهَلْ عَسَيْتُمْ إِنْ تَوَلَّيْتُمْ أَنْ تُفْسِدُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَتُقَطِّعُوا أَرْحَامَكُمْ Anyone who cuts off relationship from his nearest relatives will not enter Paradise.
لا يدخل الجنةَ قاطعُ رحم
