The Ruling on a Woman Speaking with Her Maternal Uncle about Matters of Religion and Its Conditions

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return to the message from the sister (A. S.) from Egypt. She asks: Is it permissible for me to speak with my maternal uncle, or my cousin, about matters of life and matters of religion, in the presence of my father and my mother?

Answer:
Yes, there is no blame on you. As for your maternal uncle, he is a mahram (a relative one may not marry). Your cousin, whether maternal or paternal, is not a mahram, but there is nothing wrong with speaking with them about beneficial matters, provided you observe hijab (the covering prescribed for women) with your cousin, and avoid seclusion with a non-mahram. There is nothing wrong with saying to him: "I need such and such," or "What is the status of that job? Is it available in the market? How are you? How is your family? How are your children?" There is nothing wrong with this. And with your maternal uncle, and with your paternal uncle, it is even more permissible, because they are mahrams.
The point is that speaking with a mahram, or with a non-mahram about what a woman needs in her affairs, or what she wants to buy, or the like, or asking them about their families or their health, all of this is permissible. However, this must be done with hijab if the person being spoken to is not a mahram, with hijab and without seclusion. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good, and may He do you good.
