The ruling on boycotting one who causes harm through association

Question:
The questioner: There is a woman living with us in the house, and I am at odds with her because she seeks to tarnish my image among the neighbors by talking about me excessively. I advised her, and in the end, I boycotted her because of what she inflicts upon me and my children. I am, praise be to Allah, committed to the matters of my religion. So what do you advise me to do? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The Shaykh: If she is doing against you what harms you, and she did not accept the advice, then there is nothing wrong with boycotting her because of her injustice. However, if you do not know that for certain, and it is only suspicions and assumptions, then it is not permissible for you to boycott her. You must be tolerant and pray for her guidance. But if you know for certain that she is slandering you, backbiting you, and tarnishing your reputation, and she did not heed the advice and did not accept it from you, then she deserves to be boycotted.
