The Shaykh:
These are the limits of Allah, so do not transgress them تِلْكَ حُدُودُ اللَّهِ فَلَا تَعْتَدُوهَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:229]
This is the principle that a Muslim must follow in all the rulings of the Shari'ah, all the rulings of the Shari'ah. Among them is sending blessings upon the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and among them is the remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in every occasion where there is a remembrance. We gave an example earlier of the ten takbirs after Maghrib and after Fajr. This is a command from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and he encouraged it. By the grace of Allah, we are consistent in doing it. But first, it is done secretly. Second, it is not done in a group with one voice. But in Syria, they do it with one voice. The Imam al-Shatibi said about this that it is a religious innovation. Why? Because that is not how the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) did it, nor how the Companions did it, nor how the Imams did it. You are saying, "Our sheikhs are teaching us this." Yes, your sheikhs are teaching you that, but that is the extent of their knowledge, because they did not study the Sunnah, they did not study the Sunnah, and they did not know the reality of the remembrance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and his noble Companions and the renowned Imams who came after them. Therefore, even for you to become aware of some of the facts, you need to stay with us for days so that we can benefit from your presence, if Allah wills. Be reassured, O Abu Ma'adh.
