The Ruling on Reciting the Basmalah Quietly in Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the state of Qatar, the dear listener Idris Muhammad asks Your Eminence, saying: I heard some of the worshippers at the beginning of Surat al-Fatihah start with (Alhamdulillah Rabb al-Alamin) without (Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim), while others recite the Basmalah. Who is correct? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is prescribed for the imam, the follower, and the one praying alone—every reader—to recite the Basmalah, in al-Fatihah and the other surahs, starting with the Basmalah, except for Surat al-Tawbah, which starts with seeking refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, as the Basmalah is not reported in it. As for the rest of the surahs, one starts them with: Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim. However, in prayer, it is recited quietly, even if it is a loud prayer, such as Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr; it is recited quietly, and one starts loudly with (Alhamdulillah), starting with the praise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite it quietly, and the Companions used to recite it quietly. So if one intends to recite in Maghrib, Isha, Fajr, and Jumu'ah, he recites the Basmalah quietly and starts saying: (Alhamdulillah Rabb al-Alamin) loudly.
As for the midday and afternoon prayers, he recites quietly in all of them, and likewise in the third and fourth rak'ahs of the night prayer, and the third rak'ah of the sunset prayer, he recites quietly. However, in the dawn and Friday prayers, and the first and second rak'ahs of the sunset and night prayers, he recites the basmalah aloud, and the al-Fatihah, and the rest of the surahs and verses aloud. This is the recommended practice. Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: كان النبي ﷺ و أبو بكر و عمر يبدؤون القراءة بالحمد لله، لا يجهرون بـ بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr, and 'Umar used to start the recitation with Alhamdulillah, and did not recite Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim loudly.. Yes.
