What is the ruling on reciting the Basmala aloud in prayer when reciting al-Fatihah and other surahs?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on reciting the Basmala aloud in prayer when reciting al-Fatihah and other surahs?

A: The scholars differed on this matter; some recommended reciting it aloud, while others disliked that and preferred reciting it quietly. This is the stronger and better position, based on what is established in the authentic hadith from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
I prayed behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and behind Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and they did not recite "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" aloud.صليت خلف رسول الله ﷺ وخلف أبي بكر وعمر وكانوا لا يجهرون بـ بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
. Several hadiths with the same meaning have also come, and some hadiths indicate the recommendation of reciting it aloud, but those are weak hadiths. We do not know of any authentic, explicit hadith regarding reciting the Basmalah aloud that indicates this. However, the matter is broad and easy, and there should be no dispute over it. If the imam recites the Basmalah aloud at times so that the followers know he is reciting it, there is no harm in that. But the best is for the norm to be reciting it quietly, in accordance with the authentic hadiths.
