The questioner : The questioner says: Peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings.
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
The questioner : What is the ruling in the religion regarding a man for whom a bank purchases goods and deposits them with him, and when he needs his goods, he buys from them while they are still with him in the factory, knowing that no other merchant has bought from these goods besides him, and this is an agreement between him and the bank? And if this work is forbidden, what is the ruling in the religion regarding the workers who work for this man? May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh : We believe that this is one of the legal stratagems (hila) that we have spoken about often. It is not permissible to buy any machine, whether a car or otherwise, through the bank, because the bank consumes riba (usury or interest) through this means. Consequently, it is not permissible to work in such banks, due to the verse that is considered an important Islamic principle, namely His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):[Al-Ma'idah 5:2], and due to the specific hadith that prohibits cooperation in consuming riba, such as his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 1598. We advise every Muslim who fears Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) and hopes that his earnings are lawful, such that when he supplicates to Allah, He responds to him; and conversely, if his earnings are forbidden, he supplicates but is not responded to. If he is concerned about this, we advise him not to be an employee in any bank, whether it is adorned with Islamic terminology or not, because the criterion is the reality, not the names.

وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِAllah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses
