The Rule for a Woman's Clothing and the Ruling on Singing and Dancing for Women

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a letter from a group of sisters in Libya who sent us a letter containing a number of questions. We addressed some of them in previous episodes, and in this episode they ask and say: We request information regarding the clothing of the Muslim woman, and what is the meaning of the jilbab? Since some women, on the occasions of celebrations, when they enter the place where the event is held, they uncover their hair. Is this permissible, knowing that there are no men in these places? And what about singing and dancing at celebrations among women?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
The use of the jilbab is a required matter among non-mahram men. The jilbab resembles the abaya, and what is similar to it that a woman uses to cover her entire body, her head and her body, over her clothes. Allah the Exalted said:
O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to bring down over themselves [part] of their outer garments
[Surat al-Ahzab: 59], the verse. And in the authentic collections, from Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her): that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the women to attend the festival, to attend the prayer of the festival. She said: Some of the women said: One of us does not have a jilbab. So he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Let her sister share her own outer covering with her.لتلبسها أختها من جلبابها
Sunan Ibn Majah 1307Sahih (Darussalam)
.
The intended meaning is: that the jilbab is something that covers the entire body, and it resembles the abaya in some respects.
It is obligatory for women to observe hijab from non-mahram men, and not to display any of their adornment to them, such as the husband's brother, the brother of the sister's husband, and others who are not a mahram.
There is no harm in the customary singing at a wedding among women, and striking the duff, which is the frame drum. The duff has one side that is struck on the occasion of a wedding to announce the marriage and make it public. The Sunnah has come regarding this, and it was used in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so there is no harm in it to make the marriage public and announce it at an appropriate time of the night without staying up late.
There is also no harm in dancing, and there is no blame in that among women. There is no harm in the customary singing that does not contain a call to what is forbidden, nor the adornment of lewdness, but rather it is praise for the husband, or the wife, or the husband's family, or the wife's family, and the like of that which is customary.
The women used to sing in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at weddings, and strike the duff, and there is no blame in that, on the condition: that there is no free mixing between men and women, but rather it is exclusive to women on the wedding night to make the marriage public and announce it. And Allah is the guarantor of success. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
