The Difference Between Voluntary Prayer, Nafilah Prayer, and Rawatib Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the difference between voluntary prayer, nafilah prayer, and rawatib prayer?

Answer:
They are all voluntary; nafilah, rawatib, and voluntary prayer are all the same. The rawatib are the prescribed prayers attached to the obligatory ones, such as the sunnah of the midday prayer, the sunnah of the afternoon prayer, the sunnah of the sunset prayer, the sunnah of the night prayer, and the sunnah of the dawn prayer. Witr is also among the rawatib. They are all voluntary. The Dhuha prayer is voluntary, and the prayer of ablution is voluntary; whoever performs ablution and prays two units is performing a voluntary prayer. All of this is called nafilah. Everything other than the five prayers is voluntary. This is why, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about the five prayers by some people, the questioner said to him:
Do I have to do anything else?' He said: 'No, unless you do it voluntarily.'هل علي غيرها؟ قال: لا إلا أن تطوع
Sunan an-Nasa'i 458Sahih (Darussalam)
.
So voluntary prayer is nafilah, which is what is added to the five: the midday, afternoon, sunset, night, and dawn prayers. It is called voluntary, such as the Dhuha prayer, the rawatib with the obligatory prayers, the greeting of the mosque, night prayer, witr, and the Dhuha prayer; they are all voluntary. The festival prayer is attached to the five, so it is obligatory according to the correct view.
As for the Friday prayer, it is one of the five; the Friday prayer is one of the five, obligatory on its day, meaning it is one of the five prayers. As for the prayer for rain, it is voluntary. The prayer for seeking aid is voluntary. The greeting of the mosque is voluntary. The funeral prayer is a collective obligation; if some of the Muslims perform it, it is dropped from the rest. If even one accountable person performs it, it is dropped from the others. Yes.
