Is voluntary prayer obligatory for one who has made it a habit?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
He also says: If a person makes voluntary prayer a habit, does it become obligatory?

Answer:
No, it does not become obligatory. Voluntary prayer remains voluntary always; it never becomes obligatory. However, Hajj and 'Umrah, once one enters the state of ihram for them, become obligatory. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And complete the Hajj and 'umrah for Allahوَأَتِمُّوا الْحَجَّ وَالْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 196]. This is a specific ruling for Hajj and 'Umrah: once one enters ihram for them, they become obligatory until they are completed. As for everything else, such as prayer, fasting, charity, and the like, these voluntary acts remain in their state of being voluntary. So, if one begins a voluntary prayer, it is permissible for him to discontinue it. Or if he begins a voluntary fast, it is permissible for him to break it. However, it is better to complete and finish it. And if he takes out money to give as charity, it is permissible for him to take it back until he hands it over to the poor person.
The point is: all voluntary acts remain in their state of being voluntary until they are finished, except for Hajj and 'Umrah. Once one begins them, they become obligatory until they are completed. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
