Advice for those who play with cards

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We now move on to other messages from the honorable listeners. This message is from the Syrian Arab Republic, sent by one of the brothers there. He says: What is your opinion, Your Eminence, regarding one who plays with cards? Does this affect his worship, given that he does not abandon prayer, nor does he use it as a means to delay his worship, but rather it is for relaxation, as he says?

Answer:
Praise be to Allah who has not prevented him from prayer, nor from what Allah has made obligatory. However, it is obligatory for him to abandon it, because it is one of the instruments of amusement. Therefore, it is obligatory to abandon it and replace it with something beneficial, such as reading the Qur'an, reading hadiths, discussing with his brothers what benefits them in their religion and worldly affairs, or engaging in work that is free from blame, such as racing on foot, or conversing about what benefits them in their religion and worldly affairs.
As for playing with cards, and other instruments of amusement, it is obligatory to abandon them. The prayer is valid, and this game does not affect it. However, sins diminish faith. All sins diminish faith, and they diminish the virtue and reward of the prayer, as well as other deeds. According to the people of the Sunnah and the community, faith increases with obedience and decreases with sins. The scriptural evidence has indicated this.
So if he obeys his Lord and is upright in his religion, his faith increases and becomes complete. And if he engages in some sins, such as backbiting, talebearing, engaging in some amusements, or other sins, there is a decrease in faith. Every sin diminishes faith and weakens faith. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
