Excess in food and clothing at wedding occasions
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Sister Umm Muhammad from Jeddah sent a message saying that many women wear expensive clothes and spend large sums of money on them, especially at wedding occasions. What is your advice to them? Also, these occasions are accompanied by excess in food and drink.
Answer: The advice is moderation in everything; the advice is moderation in clothing, in food, and in everything. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said—praising the servants of Allah: [al-Furqan: 67]. And He, Exalted is He, said: [al-Isra: 29]. So the Sunnah for the believing man and the believing woman is moderation in clothing, in eating and drinking, and in everything. There should be no extravagance or waste, nor stinginess or miserliness, but rather moderation in all matters: in food and drink, in bedding, in clothing, and in other things. May Allah guide everyone. We ask Allah for guidance for everyone. It is a general calamity; there is no power and no strength except with Allah.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good and do you good.

And [they are] those who, when they spend, do so not excessively or sparingly but are ever, between that, [justly] moderate
وَالَّذِينَ إِذَا أَنفَقُوا لَمْ يُسْرِفُوا وَلَمْ يَقْتُرُوا وَكَانَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ قَوَامًاAnd do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good and do you good.
