The Obligation to Study Islamic Jurisprudence in Matters a Muslim Cannot Be Ignorant Of

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner: Hamdi al-Masri says in this question: There is a man who is not proficient in reading or writing and does not study Islamic jurisprudence. Is he excused for his ignorance or not? And if he is excused, what is the evidence? May Allah reward you with good.
Answer: It is obligatory for him to learn. It is obligatory for him to learn, to gain insight, to ask the people of knowledge, and to attend circles of knowledge until he learns his religion. This is because Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) created him to worship Him:
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
[Surat al-Dhariyat: 56]. And this worship requires that he study Islamic jurisprudence in it and know it through the path of the scholars, through the path of circles of knowledge, through listening to Friday sermons and beneficial lectures. He should ask the scholars until he knows his religion, what the worship is for which he was created. He should ask until he gains insight, until he learns, and until he fulfills what Allah has made obligatory upon him with understanding. He has no right to remain silent and turn away. Rather, he must ask, learn, and study Islamic jurisprudence so that he worships Allah with understanding.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He upon whom Allah intends to bestow goodness, He confers upon him an insight in religionمن يرد الله به خيرًا يفقهه في الدين
Sahih Muslim 1037a
And Allah says:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لا تَعْلَمُونَ
[Surat al-Nahl: 43]. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
