The Shaykh’s remarks on the doubt regarding the claim of the internal speech of Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : ... and so on. Allah did not speak; rather, the tree spoke. Well, but the texts are decisive that Allah said to Iblis, said to Adam, said to Musa, and said to His prophets. Yes, this is all internal speech. For example, when He, the Exalted, addressed Musa:
(17) And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?" (18) He said, "It is my staff وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَامُوسَى * قَالَ هِيَ عَصَايَ
[Taha 20:17-18]
This is what Musa heard from his Lord as speech. Rather, it was revealed to him as revelation in the soul, like the speech of the soul, meaning.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest! So they would invalidate all the texts. They found an exit for themselves, in their claim, in an authentic report from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away and they gathered to choose the caliph, he was present to deliver a speech. But Abu Bakr preceded him and spoke. May Allah will it, and he did not leave room for 'Umar to speak. 'Umar said: "And I had prepared a speech in my mind." So there is internal speech. Do you understand? Then this Qur'an and this speech narrated in the Qur'an and in the hadiths, all of this is internal speech and not verbal speech that is heard, read, and recited from Allah to His prophets and messengers. The disagreement arose from here between the Asha'irah and the Maturidiyyah on one hand, and the people of the Sunnah on the other hand. The people of the Sunnah say that the speech of Allah is both word and meaning, and every letter is ten good deeds. The others say, no, this is internal speech, like the divine knowledge. The internal speech remains in the essence of Allah, and this is a natural thing, like knowledge.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And so they say: "And He has always been a Speaker, All-Knowing." Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him), when he spoke about this issue, they say, these people who claim internal speech or the internal speech of Allah. Yes, Allah is still saying:
And what is that in your right hand, O Moses?" وَمَا تِلْكَ بِيَمِينِكَ يَا مُوسَى
[Taha 20:17]
everything, meaning
And [mention] when We said to the angels, "Prostrate وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا
[Al-Baqarah 2:34]
prostrate, because this is internal speech settled in the soul, like knowledge. So this old Salafi, Matarf, came and said: "Let none of you say that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says, but rather say He said."

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : There is a refutation of those who claim the internal speech of Allah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Our man did not understand, even though he is a Najdi.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And he is supposed to know, meaning, this issue. But he is a Najdi who holds to the correct creed and does not know the Asha'irah and their philosophy, so he did not notice the benefit present in this report.

The questioner : Yes, may Allah reward you with good.
