The ruling on dyeing hair with black henna or other substances

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on dyeing hair with black henna? It is like ordinary henna, except that instead of giving a red dye, it gives a black dye. And what is the ruling on dyeing white hair if it appears early in life with black, or with any other color?

Answer:
If the dye is from henna, or something else that makes the hair black without doubt, then this is prohibited. However, if it contains a redness between red and black, there is no harm; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited changing white hair to black, and he said:
Change this gray hair, and keep it away from blackغيروا هذا الشيب، وجنبوه السواد
in several hadiths. It is not permissible to change white hair to black, even if the white hair appeared in a man or a woman while they are young. It should be changed to something other than black, such as yellow or red. As for black, it is not allowed due to the generality of the hadith established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), indeed several hadiths on this matter from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
