Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to the letter of the listener (A. S. A.). We presented some of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks and says: I heard a hadith from your program, which is:Sunan Abi Dawud 102Sahih Maqtu' (Al-Albani), so what is the ruling if someone performs wudu' in the restroom, and we know that it is not permissible to mention the name of Allah there?
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
Yes, it has been reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) through several chains from a group of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) that he said:Sunan Abi Dawud 102Sahih Maqtu' (Al-Albani), but their chains contain some weakness, and their total reaches the level of hasan (good). The believer should mention the name of Allah at the beginning of wudu' and say: "In the name of Allah" when he washes his hands for the purpose of wudu', or at the beginning of rinsing the mouth and sniffing water, he should mention the name of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) in accordance with these hadiths, even if he is in the restroom. If it is easy for him to perform wudu' outside, he should do so; otherwise, there is no harm in saying: "In the name of Allah" when performing wudu' even if he is in the restroom. Mentioning Allah in the restroom is not forbidden; it is only disliked (makruh) by some scholars. However, if there is a need for it, the dislike is removed, such as saying the name of Allah at the beginning of wudu'. If he forgets it or is unaware of it, there is no blame on him, and his wudu' is valid. But he should not intentionally do so; rather, he should mention the name of Allah at the beginning of wudu' even if he is in the restroom, because the strong need for it and the opinion of some scholars that it is obligatory prevents the dislike in that case, and the dislike is removed by that. He should mention the name of Allah at the beginning of his wudu'.
As for when there is no need, it is disliked for him to mention Allah while he is in the restroom, which is the place for relieving oneself, out of reverence for the remembrance of Allah and sanctification of it. If the one performing wudu' leaves off saying the name of Allah during wudu' out of ignorance or forgetfulness, his wudu' is valid.
As for if he leaves it off intentionally, with knowledge and awareness of the legal ruling, the safest course for him is to repeat the wudu'; because some scholars held the view that it is obligatory, due to these hadiths. Even though there is weakness in them, they strengthen one another. We ask Allah for success for everyone. Yes.
The presenter : O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you with good.
