Question:
They also ask: A woman who lives with her husband's family in one house, and her husband has adult male brothers, is she permitted to display any of her adornment in front of them? That is: is she permitted to display her adornment in front of them? And is kohl part of the display of adornment that is prohibited?
Answer:
It is obligatory for her to cover herself from her husband's brothers and not to display any of her adornment to them; because of His saying (peace and blessings be upon him): [Surat al-Nur:31] the verse from Surat al-Nur, and the husband's brothers are not among these people.
And al-bu'ul: they are the husbands, so the husband's brothers are not among these people, and likewise his paternal uncles, and likewise his maternal uncles, and likewise the husbands of his sisters are not among these people, so it is not permissible for a woman to display her adornment to these people, neither the face, nor the jewelry on the neck, nor on the hand, nor on the foot, nor on the leg, she must cover all of it with her jilbab or her abaya or something similar so that her husband's brothers do not see anything of her, as in the other verse, He says (peace and blessings be upon him): [Al-Ahzab:53], so covering is purer for the hearts of everyone, both women and men.
As for greeting with words, there is nothing wrong with it, but without shaking hands, she greets her husband's brother, her husband's paternal uncle, and her husband's maternal uncle with words, she returns the greeting, she asks about his condition, and about the condition of his house, what does not contradict, but she does not shake his hand, and she does not display her adornment to him, rather she covers herself, yes.
