The ruling on a woman covering her face and the requirement of a specific color for the hijab

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A woman from Sudan, Umm Ahmad, says: I ask and say: What is the ruling on uncovering the face? Is it lawful or forbidden? And is the hijab only the wide jilbab? Does it have a specific color? In our country, we wear what is called the loose thobe over the dress, and it comes in multiple colors. Can it serve as a substitute for the hijab, or is it not permissible? I ask you for guidance.

Answer:
Covering the face is a necessary requirement; because the face is the place of a woman’s adornment, or its opposite, it is the place of temptation. Therefore, it is obligatory to cover it. The women in the early period of Islam used to uncover their faces, but that was abrogated when the words of Allah the Exalted were revealed:
And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts.
[Al-Ahzab: 53]. So He, the Exalted, commanded that questioning and speaking with women be done from behind a hijab, such that she is veiled from behind a wall, from behind a door, or from behind a jilbab that she has placed over her face, so that she does not cause temptation and is not tempted.
There is no harm in the jilbab being black, red, green, or white. The intention is to cover the face with any type of material. It is not required that it be black, green, red, white, or otherwise. He, the Exalted, made it clear that this is purer for the hearts of everyone, that this jilbab and this veiling is purer for the hearts of everyone and further from temptation. Yes.
