Is hijab only covering the face?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A message was received by the program from one of the listening brothers, saying Ahmad Muhammad Atiya, of Egyptian nationality. The brother Ahmad asks about the hijab of the woman: is it only covering the face? And is it obligatory, or a recommended practice?

Answer:
The meaning of hijab is: that she covers her face and her entire body. This is the hijab from non-mahram men, such as her husband's brother, her husband's uncle, her sister's husband, or her aunt's husband, her paternal cousin, her maternal cousin, and her neighbors. She veils herself from them, covering her face, her hair, and her entire body. However, she greets them and returns their greeting; there is no harm in that. But she does not shake their hands, nor does she reveal any part of her body to them. Allah (Mighty and Majestic) said regarding the wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts.
[Al-Ahzab: 53].
The Exalted made it clear that speech should be from behind a hijab, which is covering, or from behind a door, or from behind the garment with which she veiled herself. He mentioned that this is purer for the hearts of everyone; that this action is purer for the hearts of these and those. Because looking may lead to temptation and may incite desire. So hijab is among the causes of safety. And He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said in Surat al-Nur:
except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathersوَلا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَائِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ
[Al-Nur: 31] to the end of it.
He forbade women to display their adornment except to their husbands, and those mentioned with the husbands. And that is only because displaying adornment is a source of temptation. It may tempt the one who sees it, and this may lead to corruption, whether it is her sister's husband, or her husband's brother, or her husband's uncle, or her paternal cousin, or her maternal cousin, or one of her neighbors who is not a mahram. None of them is she permitted to display her adornment to, whether from her face or otherwise. Yes...

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
