Ruling on refraining from marriage to devote oneself to seeking knowledge, while fearing sin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner: Your Eminence! We return to a letter sent by the listener Ahmad Faris from the Yemen Arab Republic. He says: Your Eminence! A man has decided not to marry, first because of financial constraints, and second to devote himself to seeking knowledge, knowing that he fears falling into sin. Is there a sin in his refraining from marriage? And is it obligatory for him to marry if he is able? Please guide us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
The Shaykh: The correct view is that it is obligatory for him; if he is able, it is obligatory for him, especially if he fears for himself. There is no doubt in the obligation; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Young man, those of you who can support a wife should marryيا معشر الشباب! من استطاع منكم الباءة فليتزوج
Mishkat al-Masabih 3080
; and this is a command, and a command implies obligation
For it is more modest for the eyes and more chaste for the private parts, so whoever is not able, let him fast, for it is a restraint for himفإنه أغض للبصر وأحصن للفرج، فمن لم يستطع فعليه بالصوم فإنه له وجاء
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 13:144
.
The Shaykh: The point is that it is obligatory for him, with the ability, to hasten to marriage, and if he is fearful, the obligation becomes stronger. Yes.

The presenter : May Allah reward you with good.
