O my brother! He does not say: O wicked one, O donkey, O dog. No, he says: O my brother! O servant of Allah! O Abu so-and-so! Fear Allah. Allah commanded such and such, Allah forbade such and such.
This is how the call is to be made. Allah, the Exalted, said: [Surah al-'Ankabut: 46]. And they are the Jews and the Christians: [Surah al-'Ankabut: 46]. And they are disbelievers. Argue with them in the best manner, [Surah al-'Ankabut: 46]. Whoever wrongs is treated according to what his wrongdoing requires, but the caller should be in the best manner, with the disbelievers and with the Muslims; because this is closer to the acceptance of the call.
And Allah, the Exalted, said in describing His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): [Surah Al 'Imran: 159]. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was gentle; he was not rough or harsh. He called with the best manner, with kind words, with a good style.

وَلا تُجَادِلُوا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِexcept in a way that is best
