This questioner says: The listener from Jordan says: Is it permissible for me to sit with my relatives when their conversation is about backbiting, talebearing, and mocking people, knowing that my visit was for the purpose of maintaining family ties? Answer: It is not permissible for you to sit with a group that backbites people or commits other wrongs. Do not sit with them. If they engage in this, rebuke them and advise them. If they accept it from you, praise be to Allah; otherwise, leave them. Do not sit with them, as Allah the Exalted said:

And when you see those who engage in [offensive] discourse concerning Our verses, then turn away from them until they enter into another conversation

وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ الَّذِينَ يَخُوضُونَ فِي آيَاتِنَا فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُوا فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ

[Al-An'am: 68], and He the Glorious and Exalted said:

then do not remain after the reminder with the wrongdoing people.

فَلا تَقْعُدْ بَعْدَ الذِّكْرَى مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

[Al-An'am: 68].
The believer does not sit with the people of evil, but he advises them and directs them to good. If they accept it from him, praise be to Allah; otherwise, he leaves the place and does not sit with them; because Allah says:
