The Prescribed Practice Regarding a Woman Wearing Mourning Attire

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! We begin first with a letter from Umm Rashed, who asks about mourning clothes. She says in her letter: To the honorable scholars! I pose some questions to you and hope to find the correct answer: Does a woman have specific clothing to wear during the mourning period, such as black or green, for example?
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows: She must wear clothing that has no beauty in it, meaning: it is not beautiful, so that it does not tempt men and she does not become a target for temptation, such as black that is not beautiful, or green that is not beautiful, or blue that is not beautiful, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And she does not wear anything but a garment of undyed clothولا تلبس إلا ثوب عصب
.
So the result is that she wears clothing that does not draw attention, that has no clear beauty, whether it is blue that is not beautiful, or black that is not beautiful, or green that is not beautiful, or something like that, or red that is not beautiful.
The presenter: So, Your Eminence, is it said to her: that she should avoid, for example, some of the clothes she used to wear during his lifetime.
The Shaykh: Yes, she avoids what has beauty in it. She wears clothes that have no beauty and do not draw attention, black or green or blue, but not beautiful. She also avoids perfume and jewelry, jewelry of gold and silver and other things, and kohl. All of this is prohibited for the woman in mourning.
