Ruling on shaving the sideburns and leaving the beard
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is the ruling on shaving the sideburns and leaving the beard?
Answer: The beard, according to the scholars of language, is what grows on the cheeks and the chin. It is called a beard. The beard (with kasrah) is the hair growing on the cheeks and the chin. Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to remove the hair from his cheeks, but it is obligatory to grow it along with the chin, growing this along with that; this is the beard. The beard is the face of a man. The Arabs say, "So-and-so’s face has appeared," meaning his beard has appeared. It is the man’s face that distinguishes him from women. Therefore, it is not permissible for him to shave it or cut it, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): And based on his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): narrated by al-Bukhari in the Sahih.
And Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
And Muslim narrated in the Sahih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Sahih Muslim 260.
Therefore, it is obligatory for the believer to grow the beard and trim the mustache, as our Prophet and Imam Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. In this lies great good, in this lies reviving the Sunnah, in this lies following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and obeying his command, and in this lies avoiding imitating women and disbelievers.
So it is obligatory for the believer not to be deceived by these shavers, and not to follow their example, and to look at who commanded him. Who commanded him? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded him, the one whom Allah sent as a guide, a bringer of good news, and a warner. About Him, the Exalted and Majestic said: [Al-Hashr: 7].
And about Him, the Exalted said: [An-Nur: 63]. And about him (peace and blessings be upon him) : [An-Nisa: 13] [An-Nisa: 14], in many verses. Yes.

Cut short the moustaches and let the beards grow, and differ from the polytheists.
Cut your mustaches and let your beards grow, and be unlike the polytheists
And Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:
Indeed, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to trim the mustaches and let the beards grow
And Muslim narrated in the Sahih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Trim closely the moustache, and grow beard, and thus act against the fire-worshippers.
Therefore, it is obligatory for the believer to grow the beard and trim the mustache, as our Prophet and Imam Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from
And about Him, the Exalted said:
So let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.
فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌand whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be admitted by Him to gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein; and that is the great attainment.
And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits - He will put him into the Fire to abide eternally therein, and he will have a humiliating punishment.
