Ruling on Shaving the Cheeks and the Chin
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: What is the ruling on shaving the cheeks and leaving the chin?
A: The beard, according to the authorities on language, is the hair that grows on the cheeks and the chin. Therefore, it is not permissible for a Muslim to remove the hair from his cheeks; rather, it is obligatory to let it grow along with the chin, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): narrated by al-Bukhari in the Sahih. And Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said: its authenticity is agreed upon. And Muslim narrated in the Sahih from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih Muslim 260.
It is obligatory for the believers to let the beard grow and to trim the mustache, as our Prophet and Imam Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded. In this lies great good and the reviving of the Sunnah, along with following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and obeying his command. In this also lies avoiding the imitation of the polytheists and distancing oneself from the imitation of women.
It is obligatory for the believer not to be deceived by the large number of those who shave, and not to follow their example, for they have contradicted the pure Shari'ah and contradicted the command of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), whom Allah sent as a guide, a bringer of good news, and a warner. Regarding him, the Exalted and Majestic said: [Al-Hashr: 7]. And regarding him, the Exalted said: [An-Nur: 63]. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: : [An-Nisa 4:13] And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits, He will admit him into the Fire to remain therein, and for him is a humiliating punishment [An-Nisa: 13, 14]. In many verses, the Exalted urges obedience to Him and obedience to His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and warns therein against the disobedience of Allah the Exalted and the disobedience of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And success is from Allah.

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُواSo let those beware who dissent from the Prophet's order, lest fitnah strike them or a painful punishment.
فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌand whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger will be admitted by Him to gardens [in Paradise] under which rivers flow, abiding eternally therein; and that is the great attainment.
