The ruling on the statement that the world was created for the sake of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message reached us from the Iraqi Republic, Salah al-Din Governorate. Its sender, Jawad Abdullah, says: It has become customary and widespread on the tongues of people—perhaps people in Iraq—so that it is as if it is a self-evident fact: that the world, with everything in it, was created for the sake of the Messenger of Allah (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and that without him it would not have been, nor created, nor existed? We ask the honorable Shaykh who answers the listeners' questions to answer my question with convincing evidence, if it is as has been said, and may Allah reward you with good.
Answer: This is from the speech of some of the common people who do not know and do not understand. The statement of some people: that the world was created for the sake of Muhammad, and that without Muhammad the world would not have been created and people would not have been created. This is false and has no basis; rather, it is corrupt speech. Allah created the world so that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) would be known and recognized, and so that He (Exalted and Majestic is He) would be worshipped. He created the world and the creation so that He would be known by His names and attributes, His power, and His knowledge, and so that He would be worshipped alone, having no partner, and obeyed (Glorified and Exalted is He). Not for the sake of Muhammad, nor for the sake of Noah, nor Moses, nor Jesus, nor any of the other prophets.
Rather, Allah created the creation to worship Him alone, having no partner. Allah created the world and the rest of the creation to be worshipped, to be known, to be magnified, and to be known that He is All-Powerful over everything, that He is the One capable of everything, and that He is All-Knowing of everything, as He, Glorified and Exalted is He, said:[51:56] So He made it clear that He created them to worship Him, not for the sake of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and Muhammad is among them, created to worship his Lord[15:99] And He saidin Surat al-Talaq:[65:12] And He, the Exalted, said:[38:27] So Allah, (Exalted and Majestic is He), created the creation to be worshipped. He created them for the truth and with the truth to be worshipped, obeyed, and magnified, and to be known that He is All-Powerful over everything and All-Knowing of everything, (Glorified and Exalted is He).
So, O questioner! These things you have heard are false and have no basis. Allah did not create the creation—neither the jinn nor the humans, nor the heavens nor the earth, nor anything else—did He not create that for the sake of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), nor for the sake of any other of the messengers. Rather, He created the creation and the world to be worshipped alone, having no partner, and to be known by His names and attributes. This is the truth, and this is what the evidence has decreed. And even though Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the noblest of people and the best of people (peace and blessings be upon him), and he is the Seal of the Prophets and the Master of the children of Adam, Allah created him to worship his Lord, and He created people to worship their Lord (Glorified and Exalted is He). He did not create them for the sake of Muhammad, even though he is the best of people.
So understand this, and convey it to others, O questioner; because this is an important issue. And those who attribute themselves to knowledge, from the ignorant and the extremists who have no share of true knowledge, or who are like the common people who have no knowledge, have fallen into this. As for the people of knowledge and insight, they know that this is false, and that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) created the creation to be worshipped alone, having no partner, and to be known by His names and attributes, and that He is the Wise, the All-Knowing, and that He is the Hearing, the Responsive, and that He is the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful over every thing (Glorified and Exalted is He), and that He is Perfect in His Self, His names, His attributes, and His actions (Glorified and Exalted is He). Yes.
