Ruling on Wiping Over Socks

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Is it permissible to wipe over socks during ablution, similar to wiping over leather socks? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Yes, one wipes over cotton or wool socks just as one wipes over leather socks. A group of the Companions used to wipe over socks. In fact, it was reported about him (peace and blessings be upon him) in an authentic hadith:
the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wiped upon the two cloth socks and the two sandalsأنه مسح على الجوربين والنعلين
Sunan an-Nasa'i 125 b
- (peace and blessings be upon him) - so there is no harm in doing so, provided they are worn while in a state of ritual purity and they cover the feet. One wipes over them for one day and one night if resident, and for three days and their nights if traveling.
The wiping begins after the state of ritual impurity. One day and one night after the state of ritual impurity, one day and one night, twenty-four hours. And for the traveler, three days and their nights, meaning seventy-two hours, after the state of ritual impurity. Yes.
