The Duration of Wiping Over Socks

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is it permissible to remove the socks after performing the five obligatory prayers for the one who wipes over them for a day and a night? And if they become dirty, is it valid to change them before completing the prayers and continue wiping over them? The purpose of my question is to rest the feet during sleep, and that is after performing all the obligatory prayers, starting from the Fajr prayer until the 'Isha' prayer, with the period between 'Isha' and Fajr being rest. We ask you to inform us of this, and may Allah grant you success.

A: It is prescribed for the believer to wipe for a day and a night if he is resident, and for three days and their nights if he is traveling, as established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the hadith from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) , that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The resident wipes for a day and a night, and the traveler for three days and their nightsيمسح المقيم يومًا وليلة، والمسافر ثلاثة أيام بلياليها
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 1:128
And this came in other hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
The start is from the wiping after the state of ritual impurity. So if one breaks his wudu, for example, at Dhuha, then performs wudu for the Zuhr prayer and puts them on, then breaks his wudu again, then wipes for the 'Asr prayer, he continues until the next 'Asr. So when the next 'Asr comes, he removes them and washes his feet before 'Asr, then puts them on after that, then wipes for a day and a night after that if he wishes, if he is resident.
As for if he removes them for rest, as if he put them on after the Zuhr prayer in a state of purity, then wiped over them after 'Asr, Maghrib, and 'Isha', then removed them after 'Isha' for sleep, he washes his feet when he gets up for Fajr and does not put them on except in a state of purity, so he wipes over them for a day and a night again, and so on. And he may remove them whenever he wishes. And whenever he removes them after a state of ritual impurity, he does not put them on except in a state of purity if he wants to wipe over them. For this reason, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed wudu and had two socks on and wanted to wipe over them, al-Mughirah wanted to remove them, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He ordered me to leave them as he had put them after performing ablutionدعهما فإني أدخلتهما طاهرتين
Sahih al-Bukhari 206
It is agreed upon its authenticity. And it is authentic from the hadith of Safwan ibn 'Asal (may Allah be pleased with him) who said:
When we were on a journey, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to command us to wear our leather socks for three days and three nights, whether we had to answer the call of nature or slept. However, in case of ejaculation or sexual impurity, he commanded us to remove the leather socks.كان رسول الله ﷺ يأمرنا إذا كنا سفرا أن لا ننزع خفافنا ثلاثة أياما ولياليها إلا من جنابة ولكن من غائط وبول ونوم
Bulugh al-Maram 61
.
So the believer wipes for three days and their nights regarding travel, and wipes for a day and a night for residence, but not from major ritual impurity. As for major ritual impurity, no, it is necessary to remove them until he washes his feet from the major ritual impurity. And he may remove them whenever he wishes before the end of the duration to replace them with others, or to wash them from dirt, or for other reasons.
