Question:
The questioner, Umm Muhammad, says: I am asking about the legal ruling regarding a woman who curses her husband if he is somewhat stubborn with others?
Answer:
Cursing is not permissible; it is not allowed. However, she should pray for his guidance and treat him with gentleness, using kind words and pleasant phrases. She should pray for his guidance. As for cursing, it is not permissible. She should not say, “May Allah curse you,” or “May Allah kill you,” because this causes much harm. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He also said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1977Hasan (Darussalam) And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Therefore, cursing is not permissible. Instead, she should pray for his guidance, address him in the best manner, saying, “So-and-so! O Abu So-and-so! May Allah guide you. You should do such-and-such. I advise you to do such-and-such. I suggest to you such-and-such.” She should use kind words and good methods, through advice and good guidance. As for cursing, bad speech, and harshness, they are not permissible.
