Guidance for one who shows off with his righteous deeds

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner says: I suffer greatly from showing off (riya'), even though I pray, fast, give zakah, and perform righteous deeds. Do I commit a sin in that? And do I fall into minor shirk (associating partners with Allah)?

Answer:
You must beware of showing off (riya'). Showing off is displaying your deeds to people, such as recitation, prayer, charity, or anything else. You must guard against it, and you must rely on sincerity for Allah in your deeds, and not care about the creation. Your deed should be for Allah alone. Do not intend to show off to any of the people, neither in recitation, nor in enjoining good and forbidding evil, nor in prayer, nor in anything else. Intend the Face of Allah; intend the Face of Allah with your deeds, and seeking nearness to Him (Mighty and Majestic is He) . Even if it is with your mother, or your father, or your other relatives, make the intention the Face of Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He), and work seeking His pleasure, whether the deed is with your mother, or with your father, or with others. It is obligatory that all your deeds be for Allah alone, and that they be intended for His noble Face. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
