Guidance for one who leaves off righteous deeds out of fear of showing off

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner says, “O His Eminence the Shaykh, I am a student in the second year of secondary school. There is free time between classes, and I spend this time reading the Qur’an, and I praise Allah for that. The sister questioner says: But sometimes I feel that I am not sincere in my work for Allah , and I feel that I am showing off. So I stop reading the Qur’an and do something else. I know that no one else in the class spends the free time reading the Qur’an like I do, and this increases my feeling and sense of showing off. Do you have any guidance, O His Eminence the Shaykh?”

Answer:
Yes, we advise you to read, and to strive in doing good, and to leave off the whispers, and the whispers of Satan regarding showing off. Strive in reading and doing good deeds, and do not pay attention to this whisper. Cast it aside and beware of it, for this is from Satan to discourage you from good. So you must be sincere for Allah, and be eager for good, such as reading, voluntary prayer, voluntary fasting, and so on. And beware of the discouraging whispers of Satan. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
