The Evidence for the Superiority of Sacrificing a Ram

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This questioner (Muhammad A. A.) from Dammam asks about the sacrifice: I wanted to sacrifice a cow last year, but they told me that a ram is better. Have any hadiths been reported indicating that a ram is better in this regard, O Shaykh?

Answer:
Yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sacrificed two rams. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to sacrifice from sheep. So if sheep are available, that is better. If one sacrifices a camel or a cow, there is no harm. The Companions sacrificed with both. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered one hundred camels as a voluntary offering during the Farewell Pilgrimage. So if one sacrifices with camels or cows, there is no harm, but sheep are better if they are available.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
