The Sunnah is that the living person sacrifices on behalf of himself and his family

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Your Eminence, we often hear in society that people intend their sacrifices solely for the deceased. What is your guidance regarding this belief?

Answer: The Sunnah is for the living person to sacrifice a ram on behalf of himself and his family, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did, for he used to sacrifice two white rams with black markings. He said of one: “On behalf of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and the family of Muhammad,” and of the other: “On behalf of whoever from the Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has declared the oneness of Allah.” And if a person sacrifices on behalf of some of the deceased, there is no harm in that.
