What is the ruling on eating imported meat?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Regarding imported meat, how do you guide us on this matter, O Shaykh Abdulaziz? The question is for our brother who sent the previous message.

Answer:
If imported meat comes from the lands of the Zoroastrians and polytheists, or from the lands of communists, Buddhists, or their like among the disbelievers, it is not permissible; because their slaughter is forbidden. However, if it comes from the lands of the Christians and the Jews, it is permissible; because Allah has made their food, which is their slaughtered animals, lawful for us. But because many slaughterhouses in Europe and America do not pay attention to the lawful slaughter, and they may slaughter by strangling, stunning, electrocuting, or otherwise, this necessitates that a person pause and exercise caution. If it is easy for him to do without that by resorting to lawful slaughter, or by seeking out the well-known slaughterhouses that slaughter in a lawful manner and relying on them, then that is what he should do, in accordance with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt.دع ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)
, and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
So he, who saves himself from these doubtful things, saves his religion and his honorمن اتقى الشبهات فقد استبرأ لدينه وعرضه
Bulugh al-Maram 16:32
. However, the slaughter of the People of the Book does not become forbidden if one does not know anything to the contrary; because the original ruling is that it is lawful. But as a precaution, due to the existence of many slaughterhouses that do not care about lawful slaughter, if he exercises caution in this regard and buys from the well-known slaughterhouses, or slaughters for himself, then this is the most cautious course of action, in accordance with the aforementioned hadith:
Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt.دع ما يريبك إلى ما لا يريبك
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5711Sahih (Darussalam)
. Yes.
