The questioner : This is a questioner for the program who sent two questions. In the first question, he asks about the ruling on eating imported meat.
The Shaykh : Eating imported meat is permissible, provided it comes from people whose slaughter is lawful, such as the People of the Book. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:5]. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said: "Their food is their slaughter".
One does not ask how it was slaughtered, nor whether the name of Allah was mentioned over it. This is based on what is in Sahih al-Bukhari from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her): that some people came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Some people bring us meat, and we do not know whether the name of Allah was mentioned over it or not?" He said:. He thus permitted them to eat what they did not know about. Aisha said: They were recent converts from disbelief, and for such people, the obligation of mentioning the name of Allah may be hidden from them, so they do not mention it. And yet he said: , and he did not order them to investigate.
This is one of the excellences of the Shari'ah: that a person is not required to ask about the one who slaughtered the animal, whether he mentioned the name of Allah or not. If this door were opened, it would be difficult for people. A person would ask: Did he mention the name or not? Did he slaughter in a valid manner or not? Was he one of the people of lawful slaughter or not? It would be an endless chain. But praise be to Allah, our duty is to mention the name of Allah when eating, and not to ask how it was slaughtered, nor about the slaughterer, if he is from those whose slaughter is lawful. This is one type.
The second type of imported meat is that which comes from countries where the slaughter of their people is not lawful. So, if it comes from communist countries, and we know that the one who slaughtered it did not perform a lawful slaughter, then what comes from them is not lawful.
