The Ruling on Joking with Lies
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We conclude this pleasant and blessed meeting with you with this question from the questioner (L. A. A.) from Jazan. He says: Your Eminence, what is the ruling on jokes or funny stories that a person tells, which aim at mockery and may not have any basis in truth, such that they become fabrication, falsehood, and slander? We ask you to comment on this matter. May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
These matters must be avoided and left alone, except if it is a little joking in truth. A little joking in truth is permissible, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did. He said: and he meant that he is a slave of Allah. And he said: meaning that women enter Paradise as young women, not old women, and even if she died an old woman, Allah makes her a young woman in Paradise, not an old woman. Likewise, the old men in Paradise are young men; all the people of Paradise are young. ... If it is joking in truth and it is little, there is no harm.
As for joking with lies, or excessive joking, or joking in the form of mockery, this is not permissible. We ask Allah for safety. Yes.
