How to Pray the Four-Rak'ah Prayer for the Traveler

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Can a group of travelers pray the midday prayer, for example, shortened while they are in congregation?

Answer:
If they are travelers, it is a recommended practice (sunnah) for them to pray the midday prayer with two rak'ahs. If they pray with the people—specifically with the residents—they pray with them and join them in the prayer, and it is obligatory for them to complete the prayer by praying four rak'ahs. This is because if a traveler prays behind a resident, he is required to pray four rak'ahs; this is how the Sunnah came. However, if they pray alone while traveling, whether for the midday, afternoon, or night prayer, they pray two rak'ahs. This is the best for them. If they pray four rak'ahs, there is no blame on them.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
