Does the one who abandons prayer remain in the Fire forever?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Among the questions of this questioner, he says: Does the one who abandons prayer remain in the Fire forever?

Answer:
If the one who abandons prayer denies its obligation, he is a disbeliever in the view of all scholars, and he will remain in the Fire forever if he dies in that state. However, if he knows that it is obligatory but is lax and abandons it at times, then he has committed a great sin and a major sin; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Between a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.
And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The head of the matter is Islam, and its pillar is the Salat
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2616Hasan (Darussalam)
And because Allah says, the Exalted:
Indeed, the hypocrites [think to] deceive Allah, but He is deceiving them. And when they stand for prayer, they stand lazilyإِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ يُخَادِعُونَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ خَادِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُوا إِلَى الصَّلاةِ قَامُوا كُسَالَى
[Al-Nisa: 142].
So, being heavy and lazy about it are among the characteristics of the hypocrites. But if he abandons it by denying its obligation, he is a disbeliever in the view of all, and becomes one who remains in the Fire forever, if he dies in that state. As for if he abandons it while knowing that it is obligatory, but abandons it out of laziness and negligence, then in the view of the majority, he does not commit major disbelief, but it is minor disbelief. And a group of scholars held that he commits major disbelief; because of his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Between a man and disbelief and shirk (associating partners with Allah) is the abandonment of prayer.
And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The covenant that distinguishes between us and them is prayer; so whoever leaves it, he has committed Kufr.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam)
So, it is obligatory to be cautious of that. We ask Allah for well-being and safety.

The presenter: O Allah, amen. May Allah reward you, O Shaykh.
