Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to a message sent to the program from Bahrain, sent by a listener from there who indicated his name with the letters (A. H), an Egyptian resident in Bahrain. Our brother presented part of his questions in a previous episode, and in this episode he asks Your Eminence about the ruling on one who misses the pre-prayer sunnah? And will you provide us with the regular voluntary prayers?
May Allah reward you with good.
Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
If one misses the pre-Zuhr sunnah, for example, it is prescribed for him to pray it after the prayer, then he prays the post-prayer sunnah. The regular voluntary prayer for Zuhr is four before it with two taslims, and two after it, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do. If he prays four before it and four after it, that is better, due to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):Bulugh al-Maram 2:262.
The regular voluntary prayers are twelve rak'ahs: two before Fajr, which is a regular sunnah before it; if it is missed, it is made up after it, or after the sun rises. Four before Zuhr with two taslims, two after it, eight, two after Maghrib, which makes ten, two after 'Isha', which makes twelve. These are called the regular voluntary prayers. It is authentically reported from Umm Habib (may Allah be pleased with her) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:, Sunan Abi Dawud 1250Sahih (Al-Albani) meaning: in the day and the night. In a narration, narrated by Muslim in the Sahih. In another narration by al-Tirmidhi and a group, they explain it as . These are called the regular voluntary prayers, and they are a confirmed sunnah.
It is also recommended for the believer to pray the Duha prayer, two rak'ahs. If he increases, it is better. If he prays four or more, it is better. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)Sahih Muslim 719c, as Muslim narrated that in his Sahih from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). He prayed it on the day of the Conquest of Makkah, eight rak'ahs in the Duha (peace and blessings be upon him), and said: Sahih Muslim 748a, meaning: when the Duha is intense. If he prays when the Duha is intense, an hour or an hour and a half before Zuhr, or something like that, this would be better.
Among that is the Tahajjud at night, which is from the voluntary prayers. Included in that is the Witr with one rak'ah, whether it is after 'Isha before sleeping, or in the middle of the night, or at the end of the night. The best is at the end of the night if that is facilitated. If he fears that he will not get up at the end of the night, he prays at the beginning of the night after 'Isha: three rak'ahs, or five rak'ahs, or seven rak'ahs, or nine rak'ahs, or eleven rak'ahs, or thirteen rak'ahs, or more than that.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) usually prayed eleven rak'ahs, saying taslim after every two and making Witr with one. If one makes Witr with only one at the beginning of the night or at the end of it, it suffices for him. If he makes Witr with more, it is better. Everything that is increased from good is good for him. The best of that is eleven or thirteen, which is following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). If one increases and makes Witr with twenty-three in Ramadan or otherwise, or more than that, there is no harm in any of it. But the best is eleven or thirteen, because this is the most that was reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying taslim after every two and making Witr with one. The best is at the end of the night. If he makes Witr at the beginning of the night, there is no harm. If he fears that he will not get up at the end of the night, the best is to make Witr at the beginning of the night.
It is recommended in Ramadan to pray the Tarawih at the beginning of the night, because that is more energetic for people, and out of fear that one will not get up at the end of the night. If they make Witr and pray the Tarawih at the beginning of the night, it is better, as the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do that, and as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did with the Companions in some nights, then he left it fearing that it would become obligatory upon them. He prayed with them one night until a third of the night, and one night until half the night, and one night until the end of the night; then he left it fearing that it would become obligatory upon them (peace and blessings be upon him), and said (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan an-Nasa'i 1605Sahih (Darussalam). This is a great virtue.
It is recommended for the believer to stand with the imam until he finishes in the Tarawih and in the last nights. He will obtain this great virtue.
The sunnah for women is to pray Tahajjud in the house, because their prayer in their houses is better. If one goes out and prays with the people in the mosques, there is no harm, if she goes out covered and veiled, not wearing perfume, there is no harm. And her house is better for her. But if she goes out for energy or to hear the sermons, all of this is good with caution, covering, and fear of fitnah, and of the perfume that causes fitnah. For this reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Abi Dawud 566. Yes.
