The Nature of Prohibited Breastfeeding and Its Consequences

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
With the beginning of this episode, we return to the letter of our sister (Nala H. A.) from the Kingdom. We presented some of her questions in a previous episode, and she has some remaining questions for this episode: In one of her questions, she says: My mother’s cousin’s son was breastfed by my maternal uncle, so he became his brother through breastfeeding. Does my mother’s cousin become my maternal uncle through breastfeeding?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
If your cousin, or your female cousin’s son, is breastfed by your maternal uncle from your maternal grandmother, your mother’s mother, then he becomes your mother’s brother and your maternal uncle’s brother, provided that the breastfeeding consists of five sucklings or more, while he is within the two-year period. A suckling is defined as holding the breast, sucking the milk, and it reaching his stomach, then releasing the breast, and then returning in the same sitting or at another time until the five sucklings are completed. In that case, he becomes your mother’s brother and the brother of all the children of the nursing grandmother, on the condition that this occurs within the two-year period before weaning. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
