Conditions of Breastfeeding That Prohibits Marriage

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: A man married a woman and lived with her for two full years, and then they learned that they had been breastfed by a woman in the neighborhood, or, more accurately, a neighbor of theirs. Is she forbidden to him or not, given that, as I mentioned earlier, they were both breastfed by the same woman? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you.

Answer: It is established in the Shari'ah that breastfeeding creates a prohibition,As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
What is rendered illegal because of blood relations, is also rendered illegal because of the corresponding foster-relations.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3105
،And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Breast-feeding makes unlawful (for marriages) the same things that blood tie make unlawful.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1937Sahih (Darussalam)
،And Allah (Mighty and Majestic), when He mentioned those who are forbidden, said:
your [milk] mothers who nursed you, your sisters through nursingوَأُمَّهَاتُكُمُ اللَّاتِي أَرْضَعْنَكُمْ وَأَخَوَاتُكُمْ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ
[Surat al-Nisa: 23] .

But breastfeeding is not considered valid except with two conditions:

The first: that the breastfeeding must be complete, consisting of five known feedings.

And the second: that this must occur within the first two years of the child's life.
This is the rule regarding breastfeeding that creates a prohibition.
As for your specific case, and what you mentioned about marrying a woman who was breastfed by the same woman as you, and that you lived with her in marriage for two years, this requires you to return to your local religious judge or the accredited mufti to verify the case and confirm the details. After that, he will inform you of the religious ruling, if Allah wills.

Question: She breastfed a child, so does he become a mahram to my sister, and is it permissible for her to uncover herself in front of him?

Answer: If the breastfeeding occurred within the first two years and consisted of five known feedings, as stated in the hadiths, then he becomes a son to the wet nurse, and her sister becomes his aunt through breastfeeding. Thus, he is a mahram to them, a mahram to his mother through breastfeeding, and a mahram to his aunt through breastfeeding, but subject to the two conditions we mentioned: that the breastfeeding be within the first two years; As he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
as fostership is only valid if it takes place in the suckling period (before two years of age).
Sahih al-Bukhari 2647
،And by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The only suckling which makes marriage unlawful is that which is taken from, the breast and enters the bowels, and is taken before the time of weaning.
Mishkat al-Masabih 3173
, and that it be five feedings, based on the hadith of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
Abu Hurairah narrated: "The Messenger of Allah would encourage the night prayer in Ramadan without firmly ordering it, and he would say: "Whoever stands (in the night prayer) for Ramadan with faith and seeking the reward (from Allah), then he will be forgiven what has preceded of his sins.' So the Messenger of Allah died and the matter was like that. Then the matter was the same during the Khilafah of Abu Bakr and it continued during a portion of the Khilafah of Umar bin Al-Khattab."خمس رضعات معلومات يحرمن، وتوفي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم والأمر على ذلك
