Question:
The questioner: Ibrahim from Riyadh says: Who is the saved sect? And what are its characteristics?
Answer:
The saved sect is: those who hold fast to what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) brought. They are the people of the Sunnah and the community. The saved sect: they are those who believed in Allah and His Messenger, and were upright upon the religion of Allah, and believed in everything that Allah and His Messenger informed about, and followed the path of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), by performing the obligations of Allah, leaving the prohibitions of Allah, and believing that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) is above the Throne, having risen above it, in a manner befitting His majesty and greatness, and that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) is named with the most beautiful names and described with the highest attributes, [Surah al-Shura: 11]. They are the people of the Sunnah and the community, and they are the saved sect.
So the Ummah split into seventy-three sects, all of them in the Fire except one. This one is the saved sect. It is the one that believed in Allah and His Messenger, and believed in the names and attributes of Allah, and believed that He (Glorified and Exalted is He) is worthy of worship, and that He is the true deity, and that He is above the Throne, having risen above it, in a manner befitting His majesty, and that He is named with the most beautiful names and the highest attributes, as mentioned in the Noble Book and in the pure, authentic Sunnah. They are the people of the Sunnah and the community, and they are the saved sect, and they are the victorious group, until the Hour comes, even if they are few, and even if they are few in any place.
As for the seventy-two sects, they are threatened with the Fire. Among them is the disbeliever, and among them is the innovator who is not a disbeliever. They are those who deviated from the path of the Salaf. But sometimes the one who deviated from it is a disbeliever, and sometimes he is less than that. Seventy-two sects, all threatened with the Fire, among them are disbelievers and innovators. Yes, and among them are those whose innovation associates them with the disbelievers, and among them are those whose innovation is less than that. Yes.
