Ruling on Reciting the Qur'an Without Moving the Lips

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner Fawaz asks: Is a person rewarded for recitation without moving his tongue? And is the prayer valid if he recites in that manner?

Answer:
Recitation is done by moving the tongue. Recitation without moving the tongue is not recitation; it is contemplation of the heart and thought. Recitation is that which is accompanied by the movement of the tongue. If he hears recitation, he hears it. If he hears his own recitation, his tasbih, his takbir, and the like, that is recitation. As for it being only in his heart, it is not called recitation. It is an evocation of dhikr, and good is hoped for in it, but it is not called recitation. The tasbih after the prayer: (Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar) thirty-three times each, and the reward for reciting the Qur'an is not obtained except by utterance, by him speaking, even if it is in a low voice. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
