What is the ruling on parents dressing their children in gold bracelets?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I have a question, my Shaykh. My son Hashim is one year and three months old now.

The Shaykh : What Allah willed!

The questioner : So his mother puts a small gold bracelet on him.

The Shaykh : It is not permissible.

The questioner : A necklace!

The Shaykh : It is not permissible.

The questioner : Is it not permissible?!

The Shaykh : It is not permissible for the boy, because a boy is not held accountable until he reaches the age of maturity.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Rather, it is not permissible for the mother or the father, because it is obligatory upon parents in the Shari'ah to raise their child upon what is lawful and what is forbidden, so that when he grows up, he grows up with a good upbringing. For that reason, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said in the authentic hadith:
Command your children to pray when they become seven years old, and beat them for it (prayer) when they become ten years old; and arrange their beds (to sleep) separately. مروا أولادكم بالصلاة وهم أبناء سبع ، واضربوهم عليها وهم أبناء عشر ، وفرِّقوا بينهم في المضاجع
Sunan Abi Dawud 495Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
: "Order your children to pray when they are seven years old." They are not held accountable, but you, O fathers, are held accountable to train these small children in prayer, so that when they reach the age of accountability and the age of maturity—which is thirteen, fourteen, or fifteen, and this varies from one person to another—then at that time the legal matters become obligatory upon this adult.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : As for before he reaches that age, nothing is recorded against him at all. So this boy who prays when he is seven until before the age of maturity, good deeds are recorded for him. This will be a credit in his life that he will face as a mature adult.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : But bad deeds are not recorded against him, and this is from the favor of Allah and His mercy upon His servants, except after he reaches the age of maturity and the age of puberty.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Therefore, in this manner of Prophetic upbringing:
Command your children to pray when they become seven مُرُوا أولادكم بالصلاة وهم أبناء سبع
Sunan Abi Dawud 495Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
, the established rule is that it is not permissible for us to dress our children, even if they are small, in what is not permissible in the Shari'ah.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Yes, they dress their daughters, and then she is not held accountable when she reaches the age of desire for some of the young men, wearing short clothes, under the claim that she is not held accountable, she is small. This is forbidden, it is not permissible. It is not forbidden for the girl!

The questioner : It is forbidden for the mother.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : And based on that, make an analogy. So it is not permissible for the mother to dress the boy in gold, but it is permissible for her to dress the girl in gold that is not shaved off, because this is lawful.

The questioner : This is the discussion going on between me and her.

Another questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Welcome.

The questioner : Sometimes she even addresses him in the feminine language, as if she were a girl.

The Shaykh : Strange.

The questioner : She addresses him, "My daughter, my daughter."

The Shaykh : No, this is not permissible.
