The Ruling on Beating Children Under the Age of Ten

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
From the questions of this questioner, she says: What is the ruling on beating children who are under the age of ten for whatever matter they do? And what is your guidance regarding this, may you be rewarded?

Answer:
The father and mother have the right to discipline their children if they see fit, even if the child is under ten, or even under seven, if he sees that he should discipline his child, whether male or female; there is no harm in it, but it must be with something suitable for him that does not harm him. Light discipline benefits him and does not harm him. If he transgresses against his younger siblings, if he misbehaves in the house in a way that causes annoyance, or something similar, he should discipline him with light strikes, or with severe words that deter him, or with light strikes, or by withholding some of the things he wants until he becomes disciplined. This applies from the mother and the father, and from his older brother if he has no father or mother, or from his paternal uncle, or from his maternal aunt, according to his situation, meaning whoever raises him and takes care of him has the right to discipline him, whether it is the mother, the father, the maternal uncle, the maternal aunt, or the older brother, according to the circumstances. So, the one who raises him and takes care of him has the right to discipline him with something that does not harm him, something light, but which achieves the benefit.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
